Sie gehörten zum Straßenbild der 60er und 70er Jahre, die "großen VW". Aber selten nur nahm man sie richtig wahr.
Sie waren schon recht unscheinbar, die VW 1500 und 1600, der 411 und der 412.
Prof. Heinrich Nordhoff, der seinerzeit uneingeschränkte Herrscher über VW, hatte bestimmt, dass das Prinzip des luftgekühlten Heckmotors beizubehalten sei. Der Wohlstand und die Ansprüche waren gewachsen und der Käfer brauchte einen großen Bruder. Unauffällig rollten die Typ 3 und Typ 4 zu Hunderttausenden über unsere Straßen. Sie waren robust und (meistens) zuverlässig.
Einige dieser Autos haben Liebhaber gefunden. Dieses bislang einzige Buch über diesen Typen weltweit will mit einer Fülle von Daten und Informationen all denen, die sich zur Rettung eines 1500ers oder 1600ers, eines 411 oder 412 entschließen, eine Hilfe sein. Das umfangreiche, teilweise erstmals veröffentlichte Fotomaterial tut ein Übriges.
All denen, die früher mal einen "großen VW" gefahren haben, mögen mit dem vorliegenden Band ein paar Erinnerungen wach werden - und vielleicht auch ein bisschen Wehmut... .

Prof. Heinrich Nordhoff, at this time the absolute leader over the Volkswagen company, had decided, that the principle of an air-cooled engine in the rear has to stay. The prosperity and the wishes of the people had increased and the beetle needed a big brother. Unsignificant, the so called Type 3 and Type 4 rolled all over the countries. They were sturdy cars and (mostly) reliable. Meanwhile some of these cars have got new lovers. Whith lots of facts and information this book (so far the only one about these cars) will serve all those, who try to rescue these cars. The extensive pictures are partly published the first time. For all those, who have had a "Big Volkswagen" in those days, there will be some memories - and perhaps some melancholy...
